Imagine a young girl, bright-eyed and full of dreams, navigating the complexities of growing up. She's talented, ambitious, and ready to take on the world. Yet, something as natural as her period becomes a source of confusion and discomfort. Now, picture a world where this young girl feels empowered and informed about her body. A world where menstruation is no longer a taboo, but a celebrated part of her womanhood. This empowerment is especially crucial, as cultural stigmas and lack of resources often exacerbate the challenges they face.

When girls are equipped with the knowledge and resources they need, they can focus on their dreams without being held back by misinformation or societal pressures. This journey towards empowerment starts with open conversations and accessible education, ensuring every girl can embrace her womanhood with pride and confidence.

Access to feminine hygiene has been an ongoing struggle for years. Every month, more than 2 million girls around the world menstruate, and most of them do not receive the care they need due to economic and societal boundaries. Periods are considered taboo in so many countries, contributing to the limited resources and education offered to them. In some states within the United States, Viagra (for erectile dysfunction) is classified as a tax-exempt health product, while sanitary products are classified as luxury goods and taxed at the highest rates. As an article by the UN Women organization states, 1 in 10 women and girls in rural areas across 12 countries did not have a private place to wash and change during their last period. In Bangladesh and Egypt, only 32% of girls said that they were aware of menstruation before their first period. The lack of education and hygiene contributes to serious health risks like reproductive and urinary tract infections, such as hepatitis B, which can result in future infertility and birth complications.

This is where EmpowerHer comes in—a project dedicated to educating and supporting women across the world with their hygiene. EmpowerHer seeks to bridge the gap between lack of information and accessible resources, providing comprehensive education about period hygiene. It's about more than just managing periods—it's about dignity, confidence, and health. EmpowerHer is on a mission to transform the experiences of women and girls by offering workshops, distributing hygiene kits, and creating a supportive community where open conversations about menstruation can thrive.
